Beef-fat creams, the 2026 edition

We did not expect to write about tallow twice. Here we are.

Grass-fed tallow balms

Skip

Six months after we first wrote about beef tallow as a moisturiser, the category has grown — not the evidence. Tallow is a perfectly competent occlusive: it sits on top of skin, reduces TEWL, and feels rich. So does petrolatum, at one-tenth the price, with no comedogenicity concern, no oxidation, and no scent. The 'ancestral' positioning is marketing wearing a wax-paper apron. There is nothing wrong with using tallow on a hand or a cuticle. There is something wrong with paying ₹ 2,400 for it.

Bottom line

Petrolatum, lanolin, or shea butter. Pick your texture. Skip the ideology.
